How to work out an hourly rate from monthly salary
First multiply monthly gross pay by 12 to find the annual amount. Then divide by paid weeks and weekly hours. The calculator shows each equivalent so you can see exactly which assumption creates the hourly figure.
Formula: monthly salary × 12 ÷ paid weeks ÷ weekly hours = gross hourly rate.
What this comparison can miss
Monthly salary may include or exclude allowances, commission, overtime, pension deductions or salary sacrifice. Use the gross contractual monthly amount for a rate comparison, then use the take-home pay calculator to model the deductions separately.
Compare the contract, not just the headline pay
An offer with a higher monthly figure can still have a lower effective hourly rate if it requires longer contracted hours. Check weekly hours, paid weeks, unpaid breaks and expected unpaid overtime before deciding.
Monthly to hourly questions
Is this a net hourly rate?
No. It converts gross monthly pay. Tax and deductions are not removed from this hourly figure.
Can I compare a four-day week?
Yes. Enter the actual weekly hours and paid weeks for that contract.
Why does changing paid weeks matter?
The same annual salary spread across fewer paid weeks produces a higher gross hourly equivalent.
